Our next hike will take place on Saturday, July 9. We will meet in the lower church parking lot at 9 a.m. and depart for Deep Gap and Standing Indian. This is a moderately difficult, 5 mile (round-trip) hike to the top of Standing Indian. As for difficulty, it is very similar to the Siler Bald hike, with equally impressive views. Don’t forget to bring plenty of water and a sack lunch. We should return to the church parking lot no later than 3 p.m. and possibly before. |

Attention hikers.....You are invited to join our next hike, which will be Sunday, June 12, 2011. We will meet in the back parking lot at the Church at 2:00 p.m., to carpool to Mountain City, Georgia, for an easy/moderate 2.2 mile hike on the Tennessee Rock Trail, in the Black Rock Mountain State Park. There will be an optional, additional 0.85 mile loop hike around the Black Rock Lake, and there is always the possibility that some will want to stop on the return trip at Spring Ridge Creamery for ice cream! Saturday, January 29th

Hike the Winding Stair Gap to Rock Gap
Distance: Four to five miles of up and down on the AT.
(This hike is moderately difficult).
Details: Meet at the lower church parking lot at 9:00 a.m. We will park cars both at Winding Stair and Rock Gap. The hike will start at Winding Stair Gap. At Rock Gap we will have the option of hiking down to see the big poplar tree. The tree is dead but it is still interesting to visit.

Our next hike will take place on Saturday, December 4, 2010. We will walk to the summit of Standing Indian Mountain which offers a superb view of the Georgia Blue Ridge Mountains and Lake Chatuge to the south, plus a view of US 64 and Hayesville to the west. We will depart from the lower church parking lot at 9 am Saturday morning and return by 3:30 pm. Don't forget to bring two bottles of water and a sack lunch. If it is cold, wear warm clothing that you can layer.
This hike is moderately difficult. The walk will be about 5 miles round trip with a 1,157 foot elevation gain from the parking lot at Deep Gap to the mountain bald. "Cherokee legend holds that a bolt of lightning struck there, killing a brood of monstrous creatures that had plagued the people and leaving the mountaintop bald. A warrior standing lookout nearby was turned to stone." Please call Wes (524-1808) or Fred (369-3461) if you plan to experience this beautiful hike. In case of bad weather, our make-up day will be the next Saturday, December 11, at the same time and place. |

The Methodist Hikers
Anyone interested in hiking is invited to join the group.
All ages are encouraged to participate.
Our next Methodist Hikers Event will be on Sunday afternoon November 14th at 2:00 pm. We will meet in the lower church parking lot and depart for Pickens Nose. Jennifer Knoepp will also share about her work at the Coweeta Hydrological Lab. The Pickens Nose hike is relatively easy and short, and it has great overlooks.
