Grandmothers Are Special

I was blessed with two Godly grandmothers who are in heaven now. Both still inspire me today.

Stella Mundy Fowler was an “old- maid” first grade school teacher in Monroe, N.C., when she married my widower grandfather James Fowler in Monroe, who had seven children. She had three more children, the first being my father. She was active in the Methodist Church all her life, still walking to Myers Park UMC in Charlotte, when she was 90 years old. Grandmother Fowler would always give you something when we came to visit because that was her nature.

Florence Martin was a life- long Methodist as well spending most of her life in Waynesville, N.C. “Gran” was an especially good cook and we always looked forward to receiving her home-made jelly. She raised three daughters, the oldest being my mom, and was married to Granddaddy for over 50 years. She seemed to be especially proud to have a grandson become a Methodist preacher.

Godly Grandmothers are one of the best tools God has today for evangelism. Their prayers, their love, and their example of faith are noticed and remembered far more by their grandchildren than they think. I know I’m thankful for the two God blessed me with.

Peace & Grace,

John Fowler
